John Lawrie Group, the Scottish metal reprocessor and steel trading company, has strengthened its relationship with Montrose Football Club by becoming the official sponsor of the team’s home strip for the next two seasons.

The company, which is headquartered in Aberdeen and has recycling and processing facilities in Montrose, became involved with the third division Angus team last year through its sponsorship of the first team’s away strip. This season the team will be hoping to continue their ascent in the division three league, having moved from eighth position in 2011-2012 to sixth in 2012-13. The club also received a boost in May when Montrose player Stephen McNally was selected by his fellow league players as one of the SPFA third division team of the year.

“The John Lawrie Group is pleased to increase its support of Montrose Football Club for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons,” said Charlie Parker, Group financial director. “A thriving football club can provide a great positive focus for the local community. As well as hosting home matches at Links Park Stadium, the club benefits the community by hosting additional family events and providing football training for young people.

“Hopefully our ongoing involvement will help spur the first team on to greater league success. We wish them well for the forthcoming season.”
